I have just brought a Garmin Edge 205(£20 bargin) and was wondering is it possible to plan a route on my computer and upload it onto the gps?

    Tom,

I got it from bikehut, by getting them to price match pc world( http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/Garmin-Edge )

You lucky thing. I've had no such luck, as they weren't in stock at pcworld...so they wouldn't match it. They won't budge from £90.00.

I wish I'd have known you were going, I'd have asked you to get me one (providing you'd have been happy to do so, of course), and I would've sent you the money.

Looks like I'll have to pay £90.00...but well done to you, sir!

yes you can make routes on alot of websites and download to the edge
I use www.GPSies.com seems a easy to use website and you can save your rides there for friends etc to download and ride if you go to http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=hgvixrqoynzgfmog that is a ride I did earlier in the week with a few pictures

    Try:

    http://www.mapmyride.com/

    http://www.bikely.com/

    http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/

You can plot routes on any of these and upload them to your Garmin.

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/ has the advantage of an OS map in addition to the usual google maps, and has no advertising so you get an uncluttered screen.

is there any point paying for memorymaps if using a edge 205 or 305
If so what are the advantages? and is it mac compatible
I have used Bike Hike website and it seems great for making a route using os map

I think the main advangtage of memory map would be you can do it offline, and the mapping is more relible, because when using bikehike i kept not being able to use the os map

The OS map on Bikehike is limited by the licence to a certain number of views per day - I guess for an advertising-free site you can't expect more. The tip is to plan your route early in the day. Trouble is, I think it is a fab site but in telling more people about it there will be even more competition for the OS map views each day
