how do i put pictures in a post?

can anyone please explain how i insert a pic into a topic please? tried using the img button but cannot seem to link to the pics on my computer. I know this probably sounds stupid and is probably really easy but only if you have done it before i guess. would appreciate if someone was able to spare the time to explain or point me in the right direction if there is help section for doing this, Thanks, Gilla
