Hi hope someone can put my mind at rest.
Having suffered from a sticky pistons on shimano XT calipers I cleaned with gt 85 will this turn the seals to chewing gum, or does it only have that effect with Avid and other dot systems?

use mineral oil. I asked a similar question regarding avids a while back (which got quite heated). Basically GT85 and WD40 will damage the seals. you want to use the oil that is within the system already of you are going to apply anything.
Clean the pistons with isopropyl alcahol or methalted spirits, apply a little oil and push the pistons back then out with the lever a bit and repeat a few times.
When you are done be sure to wipe away all of the excess fluid.Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)

or you can use some brake grease. again be aware there is brake grease that is suitable for DOT systems and also for other systems.
I am not talking about Piston grease as that is something else.
brake cleaners and then some drops of the brake fluid do a good job."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks for the reply guys
.
Do you think the seals will be ok or do you think some damage may have already been done. I looked at them again today recleaning with mineral oil and they seem to be ok. Hopefully I have escaped embarrasment.0
