HI guys,

i'm looking to get a pair of tri shoes...for around £100 and not really anymore.

Can you
a) recommend me a pair? and
b) recommend a good tri shop website?

Cheers
Jim

What distances are you going to do ? They are better for drying out, and easier on and off - but you can get normal road shoes with a couple of velcro straps rather than the one tri strap.

I only race mid to long distance so its not worth me buying tri specific shoes to save seconds over the course of a 5 hour minimum race.

Oh right yeah forgot to mention that. I usually race spint and standard.

For sprint or standard, I'd recommend Shimano TR 50s, as a normal road shoe will eat into your transition times.
They are triathlon specific (one large overstrap closing towards the bike), carbon soled, aerated, and accept LOOK and Shimano cleats(you didn't say what cleats/pedal combo you'll be using)
I use them and find them extremely comfortable, easy to use and a very responsive shoe.

Having a look for TR50s, it seems they've been superceded by the TR51s, which are over your budget, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the TR31s, the main difference being a fibreglass/nylon sole.

For a good and varied online triathlon store, wiggle.co.uk are a great source of triathlon kit.

    Good luck!

is there that much of a difference in carbon and fibre glass...pretty much the same fibre reinforced polymer idea..

I'd say if you were a pro, then maybe you'd notice the difference in rigidity, and the slightly (very slightly) lower weight.
Essentially it is the same idea, using fibres and resin to create a lightweight and rigid platform.
So, in answer to your question, no, it'll probably make no difference at all!
And your cleats will be well compatible, you'll look cool wearing all Shimano etc. etc.!
