HI,
Has anyone any ideas on transporting a bike in the back of a van?
My front wheel needs to be removed to fit the bike in, i have an idea of bolting a front wheel hub with the skewer into the van, then sitting the forks into the hub....
any other ideas would be great. Surely some one has done something like this before.

Get a front fork carrier for a roofrack like a San Remo and screw it to a length of 2"x4" timber - it'll stop the bike toppling over - you don't even need to fix it to the floor IMEMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

If you want to spend money (or get inspiration for a DIY solution) - look at http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Delta ... 360006701/ or http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Saris ... 360019004/
I use the Saris - very solid piece of kit.0 -
I use this in our station wagon and it works well. Same idea but you don't have to drill holes in your van.
For what ever solution you go for, if it's for a mtb make sure you don't get any clashing with disk brakes.

It's not cheap - but I have one of these:

I use it in the back of my 4x4 coupled with some tie-downs. But you can also bolt the piece to the bed of your van.0 -
We used the Minoura Vergo for 2 bikes in the back of a Vauxhall Zafira for a week in France - 500 miles each way. Perfect. There's no such thing as too old.0

I had my van boarded out and the bikes were bungee corded to the sides - they didn't move an inch! Simple but ideal.
I guess you've seen this though:

But i would use this if transporting in an estate car, with just the front wheel removed. Hope this helps.0 -
I've got one of those original turbos that is basically a load of oron bar welded together. Fan has been taken off. Take front wheel out and bunjee to the side to stop it falling over. Have used it in Escort 75 and now Vauxhall Combo.0

Done that myself when the bike went down to Port Wenn in the back of my Dads Escort, though I used 4x1" in a tasteful brown.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
nail the front tyre to a piece of 4 by 2 and see if it still floats, if not you've got a puncture.0
