I saw a bike a few weeks ago, and it had the lockout mech on the handlebars as oposed to the forks. any ideas what forks they could have been?

I quite like the idea of having the lockout on the handlebars as oposed to the forks.

Is this something that can be bought seperately and fitted or is it specific to that type of suspension and are they any good?

if it's a seperate mech that can be added, how much do they go for?

a lot of forks have a remote lock out, some with adjustable compression damping on the remote too.

You can retro fit a remote to some forks, but not all, costs can vary depending on what fork & remote.

They can be useful as you don't need to reach down to lock the fork out.

Of the 5 sets of forks I've owned 1 had a remote lock & compression adjuster, one had no remote lock & the other 3 didn't. Remote was good, but non remote still works, just have to take your eyes off the trail for a sec to operate it

I don't really miss a lock out of any description as my current Fox forks don't have one at all
