I've got a 1999 GT I-drive which i'm tryin to spruce up and have fitted discs to it therefore no longer require the v brake bosses on the rear swingarm, problem is they seem to be stuck in after so many years of being held in place! i dont really wanna dremel them off and rather try and get them out somehow (mainly for aesthetics but also dont want danerour lookin spikes on my bike!)

Any ideas on how to get them out? i'm guessin they used locktite on the bolts...

many thanks!

some hot water can help with loosening the threadlock.

but otherwise just time and perseverance with a correct size spanner.

spray a load of wd40 on them and leave it over night. it dissolves glue.

I had to use mole grips on mine. It wrecked them but got them out. I was ready to cut then file them down.

hmm hadnt thoutht about hot water - good idea! will try that today. i did use the right size spanner initially but trying to undo them actually snapped the spanner! lol
I dont mind mashing the bosses up as dont need them and if ever i do i have spares anyway :)
will try the hot water trick...

Already tried wd40 - dont think it makes any difference cos there is paint over the bosses from when the bike was originally sprayed (GT must have sprayed it with the bosses already on) so the penetratin oil cant get in :(

Just had another look at it and i think other than the problem of the bolt bein seized the other main prob is that the flat parts used to undo it are rounded off so i cant get a decent (or any) 'bite' to try and undo the brake boss....

Any ideas? Have been looking at 'easy out' screw extractors...
