For me this is one of the best, not the most successful ever and I do love Integrale and 6R4's but its certainly one of my favorites and was a demon in its day. Group B was the best. Never before has 1.8 litres and turbo produced so much thrills and the sound for a 4 cylinder is awesome, love the anti lag flashes too. Hail the great Ari Vatanen. Enjoy :D

I think you should rename this as Favourite, best will never be proven.

Unless you say that best = most successfull, in which case it'll be the Citroen C4/Xsara as driven by Loeb. And no-one is going to agree with that.

Personal favourite is the Celica GT4 as driven by Carlos Sainz. Integrale, Quattro, Stratos, RS200 all run it very close for me.

Has to be the Audi Quattro how could a car that big that ugly and that bad handling win so many rallies.

Still remember standing freezing my n%ts off in a welsh forest near Builth wells at midnight when the lead Quattro came past during the RAC rally

    The Noise

    The Flaming exhaust

The barely under control car going past so close I could have shook the drivers hand

    Aahh happy days :)

i have to agree on the Audi noise but it has to be the Giant killing abilities of the 970 and 1071 Minis.

  • Audi Quattro is a sure contender, as is the 205 T16.

However, I have my personal fav.

Having the blue oval in my blood since I was young, i've always always liked the car that got group B rally cars banned :(

    The RS200.

Was an active rally car for 1 year only..the year I was born actually

420BHP @ 8000 RPM.... they wanted to make it a group S car and change the engine from a 1.8t to a 2.1t!!

Twas the very last proper gp B rally car :(

Wasn't strictly the car that got group B banned, more the spectators in Portugal. I think the video of that event is/ was on youtube... Not posting a link as people died as a result The cars are faster now than the group B cars were, but spectator control and safety is much better these days.
And if you arfe on about best group B Metro 6R4, the best sound and unlike the others not boosted in any way...

    As mentioned by Nicklouse

Pady Hopkirk and the amazing Coopers, nothing like it since for sheer amazing ability from something so small to take on the big guys and beat them over a period of years.

:D Ive been driven round a forest stage in a 6R4, and my own Chevette was a 2.6 16v Twin cam on 48's pushing a rather nice 260BHP 8) Got too expensive in the end with a house and everything else...

My Dad had three uR Quattros.

The last was a Treser version (and Fast Lane magazine poster car) - very 80s but very quick!

I have fond memories of the 6R4, mostly because I owned a Metro Turbo at the time

I was working at Austin Rover Cowley one day and got to sit in one of the dozens of unsold 6R4s they had 'round the back'.

Nobody voting for the Skoda 130? I'm surprised.

    Gordini Turbo.

What about the Porsche 959 Dakar cars. Thats my answer. :D
  • I used to absolutely love going to watch the group B's on the RAC as a kid. They're the best for me because of the fine (if a little faint now) memories.
Oh the noise those things made as they blasted through the forest  .

I know its a newer car, but im a big fan of the current C4 used in WRC, looks loads of fun to drive and just goes where Loeb points it.
