Octalink to Hollowtech

I am going to replace an Octalink (105 triple) chainset with a Hollowtech (Ultegra double) chainset. Seems pretty straightforward but.....
the Hollowtech is from a bike with a 68mm BB housing and the Octalink is on a bike with a 74mm BB housing. Is this a problem - will I need new cups - or is it as easy as I originally hoped?

Anyone done a similar swap?

I know that mtb hollowtwch 2's fit both 68 and 73mm bottom bracket shells and I'd imagine that the road bottom brackets are the same style to

You can't fit road HTII cranks to a 73mm BB, at all. Sorry.

..................but then again, if the MTB version will fit both (thanks Wappy) I might just have a go. It's all to do with the spacers - what could possibly go wrong

I think the axle will be too short on the 105 HT2 68mm crank set. The spacers are only used on the MTB sets for different chain lines and Bbwidths.

Yep. The axle is 5mm shorter on road sets.
