Hi everyone,
Joined the forum just to ask this question:
I'm off to see the (hopefully) decisive stage of this year's Tour, having seen last year's final time trial. My wife and me would be quite happy cycling up the beast and camping out. However, my wife's cousin and his wife have said about hiring an RV and leaving it on the mountainside, as they don't fancy the cycling/camping thing. so people:
Is this practicable, and how far up the mountain would you be allowed in a motorhome?
Thanks in advance
Ian
PS Off to Paris Roubaix next weekend for first time. Will read thread for tips.

There are some parking spots on the climb but they will go early! You might have to be there several days in advance, especially towards the top. Bear in mind that it can be very cold and windy at night. You might prefer to park up in the forest section about St Esteve.0

If Alpe d'Huez is anything to go by, then I reckon to get a spot large enough to park an RV your going to have to get there a week before (although I'm sure someone will post a reply saying they found a spot 1km from the top last time to Tour used Ventoux).
The lower part of the climb has "armco" barriers, I think they use it for motor sport events, so you won't be able to just pull the RV off by the side of the road. Maybe parking on the climb from Sault, close to Chalet Reynard might be a better bet. Then just walk onto the climb on race day. All a bit of a lottery, think you have the best idea, cycle up the climb.
And I'm going to Roubaix next weekend, Ventoux for the Tour and my name is Ian too, bizarre!0
