Riding different bikes, it suprises me how much they differ.

Recently had a Cube LTD team, which to be fair didn't really inspire me...
I tried my mates £1000 new Fisher last night, which left me very underwhelmed with the riding position and the Juicy 4s. It rolled well but anything else was a complete chore.
He tried my Specialized HArdrock Sport and prefered it to his new Fisher, one of the other lads rode the Spec too and loved it....
Me, i think it's way better than the Cube and the Fisher...
But was less than £200 on ebay LOL.
ANyway, back to the point.... what's the reason for differences in 'feel' of bikes generally ?
Standing them together the only major difference we could see was the frame from bars to seat stem was shorter on the Spec.
It does make me realise though when people say "test before you buy" is actually true.

the only difference you could see was a shorter top tube?
thats like comparing a led zeppelin record to a sex pistols record and saying the only difference you could see was the label so how come they were so different?
there are a hundred things to be taken into account, like BB hieght, head tube angle, stem rise, bar width, seat tube angle/length, saddle position, fork height/sag, tyres, crank length and so on.
take two identical bikes and give them to two different riders. after a few days they will look the same but will feel completely different as each rider will have them set up for their own style.0 -

Nope, sorry didn't phrase that well, in the initial geometry from standing them next to one another that was the first apparent difference.Salsa Spearfish 29er

Not sure, it was hard to tell in some ways as his was running about 12-15psi more in the tyres than mine so gives a perception of harshness in some ways obviously. Mine is about 40 he's up in the mid 50's.
the Spec just felt instantly 'nicer' than his.Salsa Spearfish 29er
