running two sets of wheels - replace chain and cassette?

Hi
Am going to get some new wheels for this year.
Giant OCR1. Have run the Alex wheels it came with for 3,000 miles or so. Same chain and 9sp cassette since new.
If I upgrade to say Fulcrum 5s, and want to run both sets of wheels (though primarily the Fulcrums) do I need to change the chain? I assume I can leave the old cassette on the old wheels even if I get a new chain?
Thanks
Paul

With 3000 miles on the clock you're ready for a new chain and cassette anyway I reckon.
You could feasibly run one chain with both cassettes if you run them all together from new, but you would need to make sure you use both sets of wheels equally if that makes sense.
Best option 2 cassettes, 2 chains, one set for each wheelset.Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

You might get away with it, but compared to the cost of a new set of wheels, tyres, cassette, then I'd get a new chain anyway...
If that jumps on your existing cassette, then you need a new cassette.
I run 'best' wheels and 'everyday' wheels on one bike, same chain.
Keep replacing it regularly, before it gets worn-out, either by measuring with a measure or using a 'chain-checker'.0
