Smart Superflash rear light - good light, good value - safety first.

Track pumps are good for in the house - reliable 120 psi, with ease. Plenty of choice - I use this one.

Regards Helmets - the fit is vital - you can try them on in Halfords - they stock a variety of big brands (usually) - Bell, Giro etc.

Gloves - get Gel padded ones.

Tyre levers - I use Park Tools blue basic.

Should hopefully get plenty of other recommendations off others.

Shorts - je james have nike £9, adidas £15 - would be plenty good enough to start in

Packable gilet/jacket - chain reaction have montane featherlite at good prices -don't bother with the fully waterproof

shoes & pedals- mbt spd are good to start with. loads of choices out there - i like shimano a520 "touring" pedal.

track pump with guage for home, decent mini pump (dont worry about guage)- lezyne very good.

    arm warmers, leg warmers
