You haven't even given us an hour! Also plenty of cooments on both bikes in these forums, try a forum search ;-)

The bikes are actually very very similar, the Avalanche possibly with a better, lighter fork. Can you try them out?
  • Just in a hurry lol. Well I have tried out aggressor 2.0 but havent tried out the avalance yet as it wasnt available in the store.

I really liked aggressor coz it was lightweight, lets see how avalanche feels.

According to the spec do u reckon that avalnche 1.0 is better????

They are very close. If you like the Aggressor, go for that.

Wow, those two are close this year.

Yeah, I'd have the Avalanche personally. The spec difference is minor, except for the fork. The X100 is a decent fork, mine's still in use on my Stumpjumper. It's had absolutely sod all care and attention for two years, if the thing would die I could buy something pimp. Unfortunately it's buttery smooth and completely indestructable, lighter than the XCR as well with decent (although not adjustable) damping.

The difference between bikes, purely sitting on them in a shop should be fairly trivial. Both use the same frames/geometry etc.
  • on a personall level id stay away from hallfords as i and other people tend to find their build quality poor, though it depends i guess on store.

i rode the GT.10 at evans and heres the good the bad ect:

    good:

    the forks seemed pretty good.
the bike is solid, i pretty sure it can take a beating and a half.
good spec for money, just look at the bike radar review.

    bad:

quite heavy, this is compared to rockhopper specialized i tried, also a few other bikes in comparision.

the bars i found are forward and make for a forward arms out riding position, this i personally didnt like but some people might like forward riding with arms out.

tbh it a good bike for the money, like other said test ride BOTH before you choose, as it very hard to see differance with only 1 bike.

random thought: check the classified adds on this forum i sure i saw a few hardtails for 450 or less with very good specs, owen i think had a 1.0 GT with some nice upgrades and a good price maybe ask him if it still up for grabs..recon fork

tbh very simular bikes try them to see which one you like.

you can still get an 08 Aggressor XC1 for £450 - same price as this years xc2.

main difference being the XC1 comes with Rockshox Tora forks as apposed to Suntour (and slightly better brakes, chainset, rear mech etc).

I've got the Avalanche 1.0 2008, and to be fair to it, you get a shed load for your money! It climbs like a mountain goat, and you can slam it downhill! What more could you ask for, for £400? :D
At my age you'd have thought I'd learnt by now!

AlpineStar Cro Mega DX (under renovation because I broke it!)
GT Avalanche 1.0 (The replacement torturer!)
  • Today i went to evans cycles to get avalanche 1.0 2008, but the guy said its only available in large and my size would be medium only for gts but for other bikes it would be large. I can still order the bike online

So shall i order the large one even though what the cycles expert said to me, or shall i just buy the aggressor xc 2 2009.

    @rudedog; Where can i get the Aggressor XC1 08 for £450 :shock:

They still have a few dotted around their various UK stores - they aren't available on their internet site but if you visit or phone a store they have them on their stock system. They will order one and bring it to your nearest store - I had one ordered but they then offered me this years XC1 for £500 which I took instead.

I haven't had any problems with how my bike was set up by the Halfords staff but I realise their technical competance will vary from store to store.
  • I just called halfords guildford branch and they have the XC1 but apparently it has mechanical breaks. I cant find the specs of the 08 model anywhere can any1 tell me the main bits.

It doesn't have mechanical brakes - they are definately hydraulic disc.

this should be the spec for the 08 model.

  • Yeah but I am not sure there aftersales customer service is gonna be good enough, thats why i will go for halfords or evans.

Ok guys I have made my choice now and will oder avalanche 1.0 from evans cycles. I will order it after coming bak from college :P

Do u guys think there is a better bike than avalanche 1.0 in the range of £450. if u do then plzzz lemme know before its too late :?

Carrera Fury worth trying since you're near a Halfords? Similar sort of spec and value, lots of loyal fans, arguably even better fork than the Avalanche, much better than the Aggressor.

Sure you could haggle 10% off to get the price down if it was £500.

The fork is the only thing that's higher spec. Deore + LX on the Avalanche, SRAM X5 + X7 on the Fury. Comparable wheels, comparable frames, same brakes, similar finishing kit. very similar bikes to be honest.

The Tora coil U-Turn fork is much more adjustable but heavier.

£50 if he gets last years Avalanche and the Fury is full price. Although getting last years isn't an option now?

    They're the same RRP normally.

my cousin just got a fury AM for 450, its really good, fork is great and the drivetrain is sweet, its very nice, i would prob have it over my XC2 if i was buying again
    I like bikes and stuff
  • I just came bak from evans cycles and the GT avalnche 1.0 is out of stock :x

The slaes person said that specialised hardrock pro is a much better specced bike. Its a lil bit higher in price but i can live with that. No the main question; Is that bike better than avalnche 1.0. the bike by the way is gonna be available by next week for some reason.

No, he's telling porkies. Pretty bike and I'm a Specialized fanboy, the spec on the Avalanche is higher through-out though.
  • and what about scott aspect 45
  • supersonic
    supersonic Posts: 82,708
Avalanche far better than the 2009 Aspect 45. 2008 was a good 400 quid bike.
  • Sorry if I m being annoying but i want my investment to be a good one so
How is Claud Butler Cape Wrath D27 2008.

I also read some reviews that the avalanche 1.0 is not that responsive i.e uses a lot of power. Is this the case :?

    Another good bike.

To be honest, most 500 quid bikes with 27 speed, a damped hydraulic fork and disc brakes are good value. It comes down to how it feels for you ie a try out.

If buying blind, ypu wont go wrong with the GT, a tried and tested product that the majority enjoy.
