Went out for a ride last night and having regulary ridden in the New Forest for about 18 months, I FINALLY made it up a really technical hill that has always beaten me before :D

I am so pleased with myself! I had literally done no riding at all when I started in Oct 07 and that bloody hill has always been 'oh my god, I can't ever imagine doing that'. I have spent many happy evening pushing my bike up it... :?

So YIPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 8)

(and apologies for the pointless post, but I thought everyone would understand!)

It's a good feeling when you conquer something like that innit?!

congrats sarah :) i've a hill like that too, it's quite short but very steep in two sections with the second section being a fair bit steeper than the first. i've recently managed to conquer the first section hurrah, still pushing up the second bit though, one day...

    Thanks guys :D

I couldn't believe I did it (and neither could my other half!) - nice to get these things ticked off!

Well, Cwmcarn tomorrow afternoon and then Afan on Saturday :D Really looking forward to riding Penhyd as I last did it about 9 months ago and have definitely improved since then. I think i'll enjoy it this time as opposed to walking, grumbling and swearing at my partner Chris!

And 7 Stanes in June 8)

I just need to learn how to wheelie - I can go downhill over almost anything, but can't hop over logs etc yet

Absolutely. Had a hill like that myself, so steep the front wheel lifts off. Got it nailed last year, really felt good. I've found another local climb now which is 'unrideable' (at the moment  ).

    well done.

Ps if you work out how to do wheelies let me know  .
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I have one like that in Devon, but I don't get to attempt it very regularly, it's not especially long, but it's very steep and covered in big, round pebbles (must have been a river bed at some point). The rocks just sap so much energy, it's like riding in treacle and you're constantly adjusting your balance. Best I've ever managed is halfway

    Know the feeling!!

I have this afternoon off work and we're dashing up to Wales - hopefully - with enough time to ride Cwmcarn this afternoon. Can't wait!

We just need to do Southampton to Cardiff in a Volvo estate stuffed full of mountain bikes etc in under 2 hours on a Friday afternoon.... :?
