Hi all, I have a 08 Trek Madone 5.5 Madone and am having trouble with my seat mast slipping down by about 5mm every time i ride it. Is there a product to stop this happening or should i just do the pinch bolts up tighter. I go as tight as I can at the moment before I hear scary cracking sounds from the carbon seat mast.

  • there is stuff available that should stop the slipping (if you got the bike from new it should have come with some) anyhow a quick google search returned:

and I also found some specifically for seat posts:

there are many others if you have a search. I have never bought any as have only just got a carbon bike and have only used what it came with, but perhaps other people can give more advice...

Hairspray works fine for me. May also be worth getting a torque wrench if you're scared of going too tight.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Epic sent me a little sachet of carbon assembly paste to use on my carbon seatpost which was doing what you describe in an alu frame. Sorted it straight away and now I don't need to tighten the bolt nearly as much. Chris also mentioned I could use the hairspray option, but I thought that might make it difficult to remove in future. (I used to use hairspray to fix mtb grips, and they were a bugger to shift afterwards)

+1 for hairspray. I need it for my carbon frame/carbon seatpost every time I take the post out to travel.

I put a wrap of insulation tape round the post to mark the right height for speed - and it will also show you if the post is slipping - but with hairspray - you shouldnt have a problem.
