Loud SRAM Rival front derailleur shift
Just installing my first SRAM groupset, and convinced I must be doing something wrong with the front shifter/front mech. Its incredibly loud.
Shifting down from the large ring to the small ring, the first 'trim' click is really loud but does nothing to alter the front mech position, then the second one is even louder, a real snapping sound, then the chain does shift down.
When I test the shifter unattached to the mech, the action is quiet and smooth, and the 'trim' click does indeed let a small amount of cable out, but as soon as it is under tension it loses this subtlety and is deafening!
Anyone got any ideas? Any help appreciated.

Is this sound ok? HELP!0 -
If you mean the noise from the Brifter, yes its normal. I can scare birds and small children when I start climbing here..
Having said that, I dont think its significantly noisier than the old Campag Record I had which took about 2000kms to quieten down. Did you guys use Shimano before?Fitter....healthier....more productive.....0 -
Thank`s for answering. This is my first roadbike so I decide to go for SRAM and leave Campa and Shimano behind. I will go for my first ride tomorrow. I have just listen to the noise when the bike is in my workstand. Now the gears work well and I look forward to a nice ride and will tell you about my SRAM experience later.0

Not sure if you know, apolgies if you do but the first click you describe repositions the front mech slightly when you're either on the big ring at the front and low gears at the back, or vice versa, small ring at the front, big gears at the back... so it's an intermediate position. Same on shimano, don't know about campag"The only absolute statement is that everything is relative" - anon0

Back from the first ride with my new bike and I can tell, the Double Tap works excellent for me. The front gear is still a bit noisy when shifting down but it does not disturb me anymore after these answers here when I know that`s ok.
By the way, I red that some guys think SRAM chains give more noise than others and recommend SKS...........0 -
Dont know about the SKS but the KMC chains are certinly less noisy that the SRAM ones, but here we are talking about riding along noise, not moise whilst shifting.
However, a lot of the noise of the SRAM drivetrain comes off their cassettes - I swapped an old Dura-Ace in for the SRAM powerdome one I had (RED level cassette) and everythign got much quieter. Not so sure if hte rival casette is as noisy as the red but read somewhere it is.Fitter....healthier....more productive.....0
