Fitting Compact Chainset - how many links out of chain?

I'm about to fit a Campagnolo compact chainset.
My existing chainset is a 9 speed 53/39, which will be replaced with a 50/34.
I was wondering how many, if any, links I'll need to remove from my chain?

I took one full link out - seems to have worked.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Wrap the chain around the largest chainring and largest cassette cog without threading through the derailleurs. Pull tight and break the chain two links past the joining point.

    Thanks.
Will give it a try this weekend.

Each link removed equates to two teeth - do the sums ;-)

It'll be a good opprotunit to resize the chain properly though. I use Mr Shimano's approved method of putting the chain on the largest front cog and smallest rear, then sizing the chain so that the derailleur cage points vertically downward when the chain is fitted. Dazza's tip above will workwell too:

If the rear derailleur will take up the slack when in small/small there's no need to remove any links. This will allow you to put the 53/39 back on at a late stage if desired!

    AARRGGHHH!!!!
The crank puller stripped the thread right out of the crank!
    Suggestions, please!
