Just in the process of building my bike from scratch as parts arrive.
When routing cables what the general rule regarding routing ?
Do I keep the left hand gear cable on the left hand side of the frame or do I bring it round to the cable guide from the right hand side of the frame ? And vice versa for the right hand ?

there are no rules."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

well it might help if we knew what the frame was.
are you running full gears? is the front mech bottom pull or top or...
brake type and right hand front or...."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

That was a genuine Thanks (Sorry if it came across as anything else).
Im building up a Trek 4300 (2004 I think)
Standard UK setup
Left hand for back brake right for front.
Left for front gears right for rear.
As I am waiting for cable cutters I have only mock setup the cables and can either keep the front gear cable on the left of the frame or bring it in from the right (The cable guide runs centre on the top tube)
I know to keep the cable housing as short as possible without making any sharp angles but was just after the general view or way other bikes are setup.0 -
you dont want to go too short.
crossing the inners on the down tube is fine as well.
have a few trial fits before committing."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
