Hi,
we have just bought another car and want to change the bike rack we used on the old on, is it possible to fit a tow bar ball for a bike rack to go on, that will be used only for bikes not for towing, we have tried various other boot racks and no matter how hard you try you always stratch the car

I'm in the same position, just booked the car in for surgery, £ 260 for a basic towbar and single socket. Thule racks are expensive, the one I've ordered costs £ 415 and I had to buy extra bits :shock: on top to cope with the spare wheel on the back of the CRV. There are cheaper towbar mounted racks, Witter & Pendle for example but I went for the Thule as the others still hang the bikes whereas the Thule racks have channels for the wheels and a lockable arm which I wanted, most of the damage to my bikes has happened either on a bike rack or in the boot of the car so I wanted a rack that would minimise the damage potential.

Big beneift of a towbar rack is they don't compromise fuel efficiency and still let you enter mutli-storey carparks.

(Just ordered a new car today and blagged a towbar for free so I'm happy ).

i too have a zafira with a tow bar and have got a thule 9705 works a treat and is relatively cheap for a bike rack

Hi,

We have a Discovery and use the Thule ball mounted 4 bike rack. I thought we would need the adaptor to avoid the spare wheel, but we did not. So check it out on the CRV before you buy if possible.
Even my 11 year old can load and unload the carrier once he had been taught. Save me getting up early toload up.
