I know this has been done to death but...
What is the best chain to use on a shimano 9 speed set up, I quite like the idea of SRAM chains due to the split link will these work with Shimano chain rings and shifter?
Cheers

SRAM or KMC (or Wipperman), all fine, all have split links, my preference is KMC, good prices at Merlin Cycles usually.0

+1 KMC or SRAM
the hollowpin SRAM is good, and I've just started using a KMC X10 on my roadie which looks and performs well, so I suspect the X9 would also be good.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
I use Shimano chains on all my bikes, but with Connex (Wipperman) links. Works really well.

I prefer Wippermann to SRAN and KMD chains!0

I just bought a KMC 9 speed chain like 3 days ago for my commuter, today it snapped and bent my rear mech hanger
I thought maybe I fitted it wrong but when looking, it was not the split link that gave away but one of the normal links and was bent so maybe a faulty chain?0 -

:!: :!: :!: Me too! :!: :!: :!:
I thought i'd taken too many/not enough links out but, as I looked at my old chain, the lengths were identical! Just had to replace it today after 3 days of 7/8 snappages and a LOT of time spent at the side of the road with the chain tool. Did you buy yours from Harry Hall's in Manchester by any chance? Could be a faulty batch...
Got a KMC one instead. No problems yet and it feels very smooth without any noise.0 -
+ 1 for KMC.0

So what snapped on you? An SRAM?
It was a KMC that snapped on me and yes bought from Harry Halls, I'm going to try get a refund or if not a replacement SRAM chain.0 -
Sorry, I got a SRAM because the KMC snapped.
Should start typing slower...
To be fair though, I did stick it in a jaccuzzi of degreaser the other day and i'm not too sure if I lubed it up enough afterwards. I ran out of wax you see, so I had very little oil left. :?0 -

They're all talking about £45 (what?!) 10 speed chains. Hopefully, the £16 9 speed ones are unaffected.
Gosh, 10 snaps in a week and all this talk of dodgy KMCs is making me really paranoid when getting off the saddle and putting some power down, especially on hills. :?0 -

You can try KMC 9 speed chains. KMC has its own MissingLink(quick link) to install the chain easily. X9L and X9SL are shiftting well. You can try.0 -

You should just use tooth brush or cloth to brusg away the dirt from the chain and then apply the grease on it. Don't put the chain directly in the degreaser, which will cause damag eto the chain and then it breaks.0 -

Do you snap KMC 10 speed chain? How it happened? Do you know which chain model it is? If possible, please let me know. Thank you.0 -
Not sure on the model, but it was a 9-speed - so probably unrelated to the problems people have been experiencing with the 10-speed ones.
I think I just over-cleaned it with too much degreaser. It's probably my own fault really.0 -
Doubt you can overclean a chain.0
