Something crossed my mind today when fitting a new chain,
i always chuck the links that come of the chain when its shortened to length in a moneybag in the back pack with the spare powerlinks incase they are needed, but got me thinking, as the chain wears then effectively fitting any of the carried spare links would make the chain skip surely?? due to new parts put in on worn ones??
so is it effectively worth carrying the half a dozen spare links along with me in the back pack?? (not thinking the extra weight in carying issue here as i prolly Poop out more a ride then they weight!)
or should i just make an Uber cool Gold chain bracelet out of them and try and make myself look a little more Hardcore biker?? 8)

  • I never carry spare links, only a couple of powerlinks. I run my chain at the normal big cogs + 1, so I have scope to loose a couple of links without worrying.

    carry an SRAM powerlink.

It'll get you home / allow you to finish your ride, but if your chain breaks, it's worthy of replacement

  • i have a few powerlinks inthe bag for that reason, just something that crossed my head today when fitting the new chain that effectively the spare links are redundant after a few rides due to the little bits of wear the gear takes??
may as well make me a gold chain bracelet then! Pimp My arm baby! 8) (atleast it wobnt turn green in the warter like the equivalent priced ones in argos hey! :D )
