Tyre choice for the Fred W

they'll be fine. The roads are generally pretty good, if a tad bumpy in places.
which do you prefer, out of interest?
I've got both down on my list of possible marmotte tyresFacts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Both the Ultremos and the Michelin, seem very similar to me. I've only had the ultremos a fortnight, and have been riding them on my best bike, but they seem very grippy in the corners, tested on Holme Moss last sunday.
Not much to choose between the two.
Brian Palmer on Washing machine post swears by the ultremos. I think he has a write up on his site somewhere.

I'm riding ultimos on the roads it's run on at the moment with no punctures in 500+ miles yet... The previous 4 years I've used Spesh All Condition Pros to similar effect, really grippy even on 20% gradients in the wet.
Ahem, shameless plug ahoy, but my blog will be doing a load of Fred Whitton stuff in the next few weeks (photos from my on course training rides, advice on equipment, training etc... And anything else people want to see!)

I did the FWC last year and I didn’t see too many people with punctures. I would say the main hazard for tyres is the risk of locking your brakes descending the steeper climbs. Its pretty hard on you hands going down Hardknott/Wrynose, made worse by your fatigued state.0
