FSA Gossamer Chainset

I am thinking of getting a knew chainset as the rings and bottom bracket are worn on my current one. Two questions really, is this a decent chainset in its price range (£150 quid ish with bottom bracket) and how tricky is it to fit? The youtube vids make it look simple, but the warnings of crushed bearings are putting me off doing it myself.

Thanks!

they can be had for a lot less the £150 if you look around. I bought mine for about £75 I think..

Great chainset - not the lightest and not the heaviest, can't fault it..

I had a quick look around but I couldn't find a mega exo compact version for much less than £135. I'll have to have a better look. Was it straight forward to fit it yourself?

I don't have the bearing tools, so the LBS fitted it. Looks like it would be a fairly straightforward job though

I got my FSA Mega Exo Gossamer chainset from Evans for £75, I fitted it myself - no harder than any other BB/chainset I've fitted before.

Evans don't seem to have any left now, but if you want 53/39 Merlin Cycles have them for £80:

I'm tempted to pick up the chainset from Merlin, just wondering how much difference there is between 34/50 (current chainset) and 39/53? Also I'm assuming the only tool specific to fitting the new cranks would be a shimano bottom bracket spanner, is this correct?

Correct, you only need the shimano bottom bracket spanner & a 5mm allen key.
