hi there,

can you remove the last sprocket on a 9 speed casstte to make it an 8 speed?

    I know people remove the ones not fastened to an XT spider to make a six speed hub- it fits a CK singlespeed hub that way and makes a stronger wheel. More so for the 29ers tho...

    no it is still a 9spd cassette but with 8 cogs.

    as Ratty says what are you trying to do.

    If your trying to use a 9 speed cassette on a 8 speed groupset it will not work. The 9 speed cogs are actually thinner and closer together.

    me been a muppet iv brought a 9 speed chain and cassette when i needed to get 8 speed.i only realised when changing the cassette :oops:

    well iv brough a 8 speed chain and cassette now so that should be that.

    we live and learn dont we :D
