Cutting carbon fibre seatposts

Is this something a LBS will routinely do? I have a Planet X Stealth TT bike with aero caron seatpost. I just *cannot* get it as far into the frame as I need it. There are markings on the post from 0 at the bottom to 100 at the top - I need it at 100 or just over and I can't get it in past the 85 mark. This seems to coincide with the bottom of the seatpost going as far into the seat tube as where it meets the seat stay - might be a coincidence or maybe it narrows ever so slightly on the inside at that point and prevents the seatpost going in further.

Am wondering if anyone has any experience of this (my frame's an XL) or if anyone knows whether I could just easily get an inch cut off the seatpost?

how tall are you? sounds to me like a seriously oversized frame... short legs long trunk?
I am sure any decent mechanic can cut a seat post, whether carbon or not.

I cut my carbon post myself. It,s easy enough to do. just use a file to round off the edges when you have finished. You only need a hacksaw and a file and you are sorted.

Thanks for the replies, chaps. The frame is big, but I'm 6 ft 4 and have relatively long legs. It's a very long seatpost!

If your seatpost will not go past the seat stay I would investigate further. You could damage the frame if it does not go far enough into the tube to prevent it from levering against the joints.

The XL Stealth's seat stay actually meets the seat tube pretty far down, relatively speaking. I've already been in touch with someone at Planet X and theyve advised me to cut a little bit off the seatpost, but to leave enough so that at least 10 cm of it is in the frame.

    Cheers guys.
