Front mech is not playing nice!!!
Well thats the long story short.
I'm trying to configure it, and I have got it working, I like to start off from traffing lights in big ring at front and the 3rd biggest ring at the back, problem is, when on the bike and cycling in that gear, I hear the chain catching on the front mech, the thing that is really doing my head in is the fact that off the bike, I hear no catching at all as if all is well
Also I think little front ring big rear is catching too, I dont want to go to a bike shop to have it checked out as they charge and the guides on the internet and shimano manual ain't helping. I think partly to blame is 10speed ultegra mech on 9speed bike...

Yes, if you can't trim it then a 10 speed mech with a 9 speed drivetrain will catch. You can loosen the limit screw a fraction to cure the catching in the little ring and drop the cable tension very slightly to make it catch less on the gears on the big ring. The problem is that this will switch the problem to the other end of the cassette, and make it catch on the small cogs instead.
Pretty sure I've said this to you before, but either change to a 9 speed mech or get some decent shifters with a trim function from a certain Italian manufacturer...0 -
I cant remember you saying it to me before.
I'll have to cope with it I guess untill april, I'll either upgrade to 10 speed or get a 9speed mech.0 -

10spd ones should do it too, if you route the cable right. Perhaps the spannering is too advanced for willhub though0 -
So when I went to Harry Halls and asked them if this 10speed shifter would work perfectly with my 9speed drive, and they said yes, would you say I was wrongly informed?0

If you know of another way, let me know. I have loads of 9 speed cassettes to replace the 8 speed Shimano one I'm using with my Campag 10 speed shifters...0 -

whyamihere wrote:Hubbub route? That works the other way, allowing 9 speed shifters to be used on an 8 speed system. Campag 10 works on an 8 speed, so the Hubbub routing would make the mech move even further, when less movement is what's needed for 9 speed.

Hubbub does C10 shifters to S9 mech/cassette/chain according to the CTC site:

Yes, you're right, sorry. The alternate Dura Ace routing moves them down a gear, Hubbub moves them up a gear. Time to go and find one of those cassettes then...0
