A bargain from Halfrauds? Surely not?

Well I've decided Im getting to old for flinging myself off things and settle down into a spot of XC....So I sold my DMR sidekick becuase it weighed a ton and there was only so far I could pedal with an 8speed and 32t up front.
After trawling through all the reviews, ebay, local bike shops, I stumbled across a bargain (IMO) in halfrauds of all places. I only went in for some antifreeze for the car. A 2008 GT XCR 5 Idrive was sat just inside the doorway....for £569.99? Down from £900.. The review on here really sung its praises ( http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... model-9901 )
And for that sort of money nothing could come close. I was ready to spend around £1k anyway but this ticked all the boxes for me and its not a bad looking bike either.
Looks ,like I'l be off to Afan Argoed on the weekend, providing I dont get roped into any decorating!

Excellent choice and great price. Enjoy! You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
Someone would be lucky if he could aquire a bike with a Tora at that price, and on a
hardtail. But you've got yourself not only a Recon fork but a fullsuspension also.
Lucky you.0 -
Nice buy! But the comments about "Halfrauds" just make you sound like a child tbh, the better Halfords ranges (Carrera, Boardman and GT) are full of bargains if you're prepared to overcome brand snobberyUncompromising extremist0

The term Halfrauds was coined well before I used it, mainly on the motoring side due to its reputation for expensive parts/fluids/consumables compared to other motor fators. I never mentioned brand snobbery...but I certainly do not buy my bike components there becuase they are rather overpriced.0

Ach, sorry, that sounded really arsey- that's what comes of posting from work when you're pissed off. All I meant was that the shop's full of bargains if you take the time to look, it's not all overpriced rubbish. Just lots of it.Uncompromising extremist0

Yesterday I bought 2 pairs of Bloc Stoat sunglasses (rrp £35 each) for £10 from Halfords. A couple of months ago I bought 2 Topeak multitools (rrp £30 each) for £12.
Moral? I've had more bargains from Halfords than any other cycle retailer, including the online ones.
a serious case of small cogs0 -

Yeah no drama bud ...There are indeed to bargains to be had, just gotta dig about from them...Theres a bargain bin at my local one that I've had some useful tools from. They just seem to be quite expensive when it comes to parts and spares.
As for the bikes, I've never had any problems with thier ranges. My proper bike was a Carrera Hellcat. Their GT range is quite impressive, and often far better spec'd than other GT's sourced through other channels.
As I said, it's mainly the motoring side that gets them the rep. I needed to replace a headlamp bulb on Toyota a few years back and they wanted a shade under £20 for a single bulb . Got one off ebay in the end for £3 or so.0
