Hey,
'm having trouble keeping tension with my DMR Tension Seeker. Just been out on a ride and the thing keep loosening and the tension drops.
Anyone got an online instruction manual (i dont have one) or any pics/tips of how to tension it properly?
Really annoying because I had to cut my ride short
Cheers

fit and tighten and pray.
pics of how you have done it.
IE better than the whole bike pics."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Best I can do using my laptop..
I have a feeling that the tensioning spring is wrong/has been bent.
meh, i thort this was the easy way out...0 -
have you wound the screw in as far as you can to give more tension?
also as the chain beds in it will give a bit at the start."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Just tried tensioning down and it seems better.
Its a very old tension seeker tho, i nicked it from my bro. the thread on the little screw is screwed so i think it keep popping out.
new seeker me thinks0 -
I like these.
no tension adjust just fit and set.

yes. well as long as you axle is long enough. as it has a 10mm hole in it for the axle."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
QR skewers are like 5mm tho aren't they?
should have enough room to fit it on the rear..got a tiny bit of thread not used. How thick would you say it is?
Might see if the GF can led me a few quid to get i sorted... wanted to ride on saturday0 -
QR size has nothing to do with it but the Skewer fits into an end that has a 10mm reduction on it that fits into the tensioner. as long as you can clamp 6mm thick bit of ally on to your axle with nthe nuts you will be fine.
How do i know? I have one in front of me."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

awesome. Cheers nick.
Think i'll go do some measuring.
How much tension can it provide? My chain is proving pretty slack without a seeker.... possibly a 3/4 of a link... could really do with a 1/2 link in there...but for a 9sp chain??0 -
why a 9 speed chain?
just fit a 3/32" one and a half link or a full half link chain?
http://www.gussetbikes.com/gusset/produ ... d=CHGUSL3H"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
chainring is only 9sp compatible..
Don't think the bachelor tensioner will fit, i'd only be able to screw the bolt in around 1/2 its thread. (if that)0 -
err no it is not it can run anything.
the teeth of any geared bike are the same size. the chains are the same internal size it is just the plate thickness that changes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
 wish i'd figured that out before i spent £21 on a new chain
guessing theres no guarantee that it'll provide enough tension tho. so I may still need a tension seeker.plop.0 -
well you can see with you current chain and see ..."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
I guess.. how much tension do I ideally need anyways?
with the way the chain is with no seeker, its not going to come off, but its got a lot of slack in it.0 -
so could you move it onto the next Pin? IE lose 1/2 a link."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
How do you mean?
I can fold the chain so that the next link is in line with the next tooth... if that makes any sense... i'm gussing that thats 1/2 a link?
hmmmm0 -
take a pic."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
-
are it was the other bit.
hang on i have found a bit of chain."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
-
if you can do this Minimun.
you can lose half a link and use a half link."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
Nuh can't do it just a few mm in it.
Take it a 1/2 link chain isn't going to work then?
Just a new tension seeker?
Cheers for all your help btw Nick0 -
if you cant do that then no a half link chain or link will be no help.
But what ratio are you running?
maybe if you went down one tooth on the back?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
running 36/16T. Kinda liking the ratio too
Could I get this and upgrade the main body of the tension seeker? looks the same size etc :?0 -
You could get a lower roller guide that's kept in place by the BB. Like this:
I've the same set up on my hardtail, which is now single speed, and I'm using the roller to tension the chain with no problems.
This one's a DMR by the way. I'm 36T / 16T too.0 -
hmm.. might work... looks like i'm waiting 4 weeks tho before I ride my bike
no cash till then
may well go for something like that then... all depends how much it tensions the chain, as mine is very slack...
or as nick said, i'll have to change the rear cog size and see what happens0 -
Ben to pass the time you could do some math?
