How do you measure Inner Tube Valve Length
Need to buy some spare inner tubes, but I'm not sure what length I need. The one spare tube I have is a liitle bit too short. Can anyone tell me waht size it is from the following measurements.
Length of outer steel tube - 29mm
Total height to top when screwd shut - 36mm
cheers

I just happen to have a very similar question.... namely at what depth of rim do you start to need longer-than-standard valves?
For example I have just bought some DT Swiss 1900 wheels and from appearances the rims are just starting to have some depth to their V-section ... but I haven't bought any inner tubes yet because I would like to avoid being too short or too long with the valve.0 -

All the good online bike shops will list the length of the valves on the various innertubes.
I've got a Michelin Airstop innertube in front of me with a 40mm valve and can confirm that the 40mm is the overall length from the base to the extreme end of the valve.
Valves only need to be long enough to get a good fit with your pump. You can always buy valve extenders if you need extra length on top of the standard length valves.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I've just bought some 42mm Valves and they measure 42mm from the base of the tube to the very top of the small threaded part.
