Hi, I'm in the process of replacing/upgrading my worn-out drivetrain before the Shimano prices rises hit my local bike shop, I'm a little confused about changing the cassette from a 9 to 10 speed though. Will a 10 speed fit onto the same freehub as the 9?
Many thanks

Yes, with Shimano cassettes there will be a spacer that fits behind the largest cog.
Check whether your existing chainset is 10 speed compatible as this will cut your costs down. The front mech will need to be changed though.
What are you doing with the existing 9spd levers?0 -
It was a 9-speed Tiagra / Sora mix, I bought the rear mech yesterday and thought that I might as well go the whole hog as the prices are going up by as much as 80% when new stock comes in! Will get a new front mech / cassette but may have to source some second-hand shifters as they are a little pricey.
Old 9-speed / triple shifters will probably go on here or fleaBay0 -
10 sp cassette comes with a thin spacer to go behind the cassette. You need to use this as the 10sp cassette is recessed at the back. You should only need cassette, chain and STIs. Everything else will work OK. The Sora 8sp front mech will work but could be a bit on the wide side. I am using one on a 9sp set up with no trouble and am using an Ultegra 9sp f/mech on 10sp.0
