4 pairs of reinforced toe/heel socks
1 pair of padded cycling shorts

for £16

they're doing tools, mini and stand-up pumps, basic lights, shoes, mitts, rain/wind proof jackest (£9.90!)

not bad at all for some disposable clothing and kit...

  • Good job, keep meaning to get down to my local one.

I'm surprised you managed to get any stuff, I think the cycling offer on bits and bobs started this time last week! Got some bib lycra padded shorts from Aldi last year that are still going strong, so can't see why Lidl stuff would be too bad! :) Let me know how you get on with the socks - i need some more!

  • Just got back from there!

    Bought a windproof/rainproof jacket for £9.90 as a spare.

And what I thought were 2 pairs of socks for £1.99, if you open the packet there's actually 4 pairs! That's 50p per pair!!!!!!!!!!

I've been using the same pair of Lidl socks for the last couple of years and they're still perfect.

An expensive pair of Trek socks I bought ripped the very first time I put them on.

Ideal, they seem good quality and they are very comfy.

The jacket seems good too, I don't know how breathable it is though, might be a bit boil in the bag.

My apologies! Well that's good then, will try and get down there tonight after work. Looks like I will be getting some socks based on the above :)
  • These are coming to Lidl Ireland next week so let me know how all the gear is. Could do with some of this gear.
  • Ok, I tried the stuff on when I got home.

I'm 6 foot tall and a 44 inch chest and all the clothes I bought are size Large.

The jacket is a perfect fit around the body but a tiny bit long in the arms. A few decent features like concealed hood, fleece lining in the collar for comfort and a wee cover over the top of the zip to stop it irritating you. It's got dual fasteners so you can unzip from the top or bottom. Zip compartment on the back as well as pockets on the side.

The tops are made of a nice material. They feel a tiny bit tight around my back back I'm very broad shouldered but overall they're a nice fit and length. Not skintight but not too baggy. Elasticated round the waist so they sit tight there but quite loose over the stomach and chest. They sit quite high up the neck but not uncomfortably so. I think they look pretty good for the price and you wouldn't feel like a t.w.a.t walking into a pub for a post ride pint. Pouches on the back but they're not zipped.

    The tops

  • I got 2 pairs of shorts, 1 mens top, and 4 pairs of socks. (There is only 2 pairs per pack, so you must've got lucky, turnercraig )

....Oh, and a savoy cabbage! (To keep our pet rabbits happy!)

Has anyone bought the shoes? What are they like, fit and comfort wise? The soles looked as though they could be quite grippy for flats too!

Didn't bother with a jacket, as I've got 2 others I've bought from Lidl and Aldi before, and they're very much "boil in the bag". The shorts don't seem as good as the Cranesport ones Aldi do.

Ye definantly 4 pairs in my pack for £1.99.

Two packs of 2 in a see through plastic bag.

Used them tonight on a short 8km ride, really comfy and semmed to wick the sweat quite well.

Sorry didn't wear the jacket can't report on that.

Got the shoes and the tread is more aggressive than the last pair on offer but the compound is too hard for use with flatties TBH, was OK in the living room but doubt the trail test will be as good.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Could do with one of those tops (a top with 'coolmax' - wicking - UV25) as when I was out riding today I was suffering from sweat not evaporating away when I stopped to rest, was getting a bit of a chill in the bad wind & ended up cutting the ride short :(
Will pop in there tomorrow I think, see if I can get one as I have a Boardman Team FS on test ride for a couple of days & want to ride it again tomorrow.

How did you manage that!? Doesn't sound like Halfords usual test ride!

(Normally round the car park if you're lucky!)

  • Bought a pair of shoes, two sets of track mitts and a jacket for just over £34.

The jacket is great - going back for another one tomorrow! :D
AT MY AGE, I SHOULD KNOW BETTER !!!
  • I bought some socks today - 2 pairs on one card but they seem to be packaged 2 lots to a bag so I guess they leave two packs of two together rather than two PAIRS! Bargain!

Also bought a computer for £3.90! Don't have one on my new bike, just my 'old' one so for less than 4 quid couldn't resist! Haven't tested it yet though.

Bought shoes last year. They were only 10 quid then. Have lost the cover (?) of the cleat recently. Shoes have good tread though and very comfortable.

I'm friends with the people that run my local cycle republic shop, they sell Boardmans & had that & a Pro HT in for customer demos.
They mentioned them too me & as I have a few days off work on holiday they said can I take the FS for a couple of days.

Ok I'm a bit of a die hard HT rider, I don't even run suspension forks on my 20lb XC bike. I expected to take the bike out & bring it back moaning about how pointless all that suspension is (well 120mm each end is a LOT to me) & how horrible it felt.
Amazingly enough I really enjoyed the bike on my 1st outing on it, sure compared to my bike it felt heavy/sluggish/unresponsive BUT it was so much fun & handled great once I started riding it differently than I do my bike.
I could ride down hills so much faster & just relished plowing through stuff I normally carefully pick lines through as well as actually jumping stuff I'd normally flow over.
All the frame angles are weird too me as is the suspension & high BB, but I was learning how to use this to my advantage I was getting more used to it & really enjoying it.
If I keep liking it I might even buy one! I can get it on cycle2work & get 15% off list (Halfords employee) so it would probably only cost me £500 or so, don't know if I can turn that down as I was planning to spend that on a new set of wheels for my xc bike.
  • I highly recommend the shoes. Ok, they're not waterproof & probably quite heavy if you're used to Specialised race specials but c'mon, they cost in excess of £100.

I bought a pair last year and a pair the year before that. I seem to remember they cost £20 both times though... Anyway, I'm still using the first pair but I don't use SPDs weekly so I'm not sure what they're like with regular use. I have used them plenty though over two years, so in my opinion they're sturdily made and if you're thinking about trying SPDs (like I was 2 years ago) you'd be bloody mad to pass up this opportunity - Lidl SPD shoes + Shimano M520 pedals for under £40! Bargain!!

I would say I don't think the sole is as stiff as the 'proper' shoes but.....

I ended up getting the jacket, a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, socks (only 2 pairs for me :( ), 2 cycle computers and shoes for buddies. Seems like a mad spree and you end up paying less than the cost of a 'budget' waterproof jacket according to MBUK!

Haven't tried any of it yet, however its quality does seem far in excess of their price tags. I'm not sure about the jacket - I kinda expect it to be boil in the bag but considering I currently use a £5 mac I bought from Primark I doubt this could be much worse ;) !! I hate waterproofs so only wear them if I'm really gonna get wet or its blowing a gale. I was also bloody fed up of ruining and ripping ridiculously expensive all singing all dancing riding jackets - I'm just not rich enough!!!

  • All right turnercraig stop bragging you lucky git!

Not all of us have been that lucky - I wonder if it's down to the incompetence of the branch staff not removing the cards from the plastic packaging (or even the incompetence of removing them!)....

Wanted some socks but none left in my local
  • It IS all down to incompetence of Lidl staff around the country that some people are getting 4 PAIRS of socks. Fine by me though!! They're packaged like this...

  • Ye that's exactly them!

I went for the black ones though, they are very comfy.
