Pro Race 3 on Proton Rims
Anyone else use michelin pro race 3 tyres on Campag proton rims?
Fitted a pair yesterday and they were so tight it must have taken me 20-30 mins just to put the buggers on. Crank brothers speed lever was a waste of money and was no help at all, managed to tear an inner tube putting the first one on as well. I'm not looking forward to my next puncture.
Anyone got a any tips for getting these things on without ripping my thumbs to shreads?

Put them in the tumble drier for a minute before putting them on. Not much use when out on a ride but works well at home.0

I use a 'Var' lever to get Conti 4000s tyres on my Neutron rims.0

I had exactly the same problem with my campag protons and GP4000s - total nightmare. Used some washing up liquid round the bead to help get them on with a speed lever.
If its any consolation I had them off for the first time yesterday and they went back on witout even a tyre lever, dead easy. I guess the stretch and soften up once they're mounted so you might be OK next time.0 -
I can back up the comments about campag and fulcrum rims - they are really tight. I used to have a set of zonda's and found that the only tyre i could put on was a conti gatorskin, but only in a 23. I bought a long tyre lever which helps a bit, plus the fairly liquid idea is a good one. Once they're on for the first time it does get easier - but still can be a bit of a stuggle on the road. My new bike has Mavic's for this reason!0

But not with all tyres - it's the combination of those rims and known tight tyres that cause grief.
Here Vredestein Fortezzas and Veloflex Corsas, for example, pop on and off Campag rims without need for a lever, just thumb pressure. Mich Pro2s and 3s though are a different ball game altogether..0 -
Yup, was an absolutely awful job getting PR3s onto my Campag wheels. Should be fun doing it on the road...0

good to see that i am not the only one having trouble.
I shall look out for a var lever, failing that the mrs will have to be put on support car duties.0 -
