hi all

I recently got a pitch pro and it has pike forks as you all know but now they have broken. Ive only had the bike for just over a month and riden it about once a week in swinley forest then i took the bike to coed y brenin and the forks broke within the first hour of riding which meant i had to hire for the rest of the trip.

when i stand next to the bike and put pressure on the forks they seem ok but when i stand on the bike the forks go all the way down and theres no travel. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is and what could of caused it?

they go all the way down and there is no travel?.. do you mean they dont rebound and just sit bottomed out?

air the pikes air or coil first of all?

it may be worth taking the bike back to the point of purchase and get them to have a quick look,
  • are they u-turn, there can be an issue with winding the u-turn off the end of the rod and them getting stuck that way.

    Return to retailer.
  • yeah im taking it back to the shop on monday. I never tend to change the U-turn only did it once when i first got the bike to test it out.

Yeah they just sit at the bottom
  • coil sorry
  • Can't suggest anything then, hopefully the shop will sort you out!
  • There is an issue with some Pike forks, it's a minor issue down to an inverted seal in the MC units, it's fixable and shouldn't take too long. I had a similar problem with my sprung Pike 409's

The forks lost the compression and lock out settings and sagged from 140 down to 95mm travel as soon as I sat on the bike and the front end was like a pogo stick.

dave_hill informed me that there was a factory assembly issue with these forks (an incorrectly assembled Motion Control unit) and I should contact the shop I got it from
I did this and got the forks back to them. They sent them back to RS's UK distributor (so I was told) who repaired them under warranty
  • thanks for the reply, how long did it take to get them back?

It took Wiggle about 12 working days to get them back to me, so about 2 and a half weeks
  • That don't sound right, the sag is dependant on the spring, not the damper, you can remove the damper and the fork will still sit at the normal sag point.
The pogo effect would be becasue of the damper though.
Sounds to me (in reme-teer's case) that the pushrod must have broken through or parted company from the nylon helix bit at the top of it that the coil threads round to allow the travel adjust, thus will need a new spring assembly.
