If you think I had a problem what components to spec the Parlee with, just imagine what a time I'm going to have picking some bar tape!!!

So, any advice?

Regards

Neil

PS it needs to be comfy!

I've given up with white tape, and not because it gets dirty easily - I seem to have bigger crashes with white bar tape, so I reckon it's unlucky....

Bontrager bar tape. Black because it should be if it can't be white and it's easy to work with and padded.

Fizik - to match whatever colour the tyres are.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

if you can't decide between black or white, then FSA do a nice grey tape....

    +1

Absolutely love this stuff. looks superb and feels great. Otherwise I like the classic cinelli cork bar tape

get some of that clear bar tape, it'd stand out

Man, your link should come with a warning!!:wink::wink:

Right, so far I've had 2 votes for Fizik tape and 2 for the Stella Azzurro Eleganza, NEITHER of which my lbs sells :(

I won't be going all white on the Parlee's ass, nice and stealthy black I think, but then I'd like a touch of colour I think.

Tyres are black, or will be, when I get round to buying some Ultremo R's.

Pics up soon, once I the battery on my camera charges, but be warned, make sure the tissues are handy

you probably won't want specialized stuff on your new parlee but if you could live with the (unbranded) bar tape then the new specialized 'roubaix' bar tape is gorgeous.
gel inner for padding and comfort but without being too thick - but it's the finish material which is sooooo nice - kind of, well, 'furry' - in a sort of longer-suede effect - really very nice. (and hard to describe!) here it is:

I hadn't seen it before but picked a pack up in Condor in january for £10.99 - it's really very nice although the white stuff I have will go dirty even quicker than the usual cork tape
  • I just put some of this in Blue on my best bike http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productcatalogue=SANMHBTP200 looks great and feels pretty comfy so far

The Fizik stuff is pretty durable in my experience and the white cleans up well. I'd avoid Cinelli cork because it's not very tough and discolours easily. The Specialized Bar Phat is OK in black, but the other colours discolour. Not tried the Stella Azurra.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I'd like to post pics of our Serottas but then you'd need all the tissues you can find and you'd have doubts about whether you have spent your money wisely. Of course you have bought wisely, but you would be doubting - akin to someone buying an EPS Colnago and then seeing your Parlee or my Serottas

  • I was pointed in the direction of a carbon Serotta when I was looking at the Parlee, unfortunately I was several thousand pounds short of the asking price

Here's my Parlee anyhoo. I'm chuffed with it, my 1st proper road build having come over from years of mountain biking. Please ignore saddle height, it won't be that high! it's only just in the frame (to minimum insertion) as I don't want to risk marking it before I can set height, I'm waiting on pedals arriving.....oh and torque wrench to check evrything.

Oh jeez, I've just noticed, BOTTLE CAGES!!!!!!

Opinions? (to what colour bar tape!!)

Blue Stella Azzurra or Black Bontrager/Azzurra or Fizik. Bottle cages - Arundel with the blue logo on the inside, either the 2 sideloaders or the Trident

lovely bike and if I had any more money one of those would be on the list.
    M.Rushton
  • Hmm, not so sure BB. Just had a peek at them, was thinking of more sexy "C".
  • Thanks MrR :D

Just had a look at those cages, that's what I'm talking about! Now, where do I get one from (I mean 2 of course!)

The importers over here are JW Whiskers, but Barry at Bespoke Cycles may be able to get you some. I got mine shipped from the States (WiseBuysCycles I think) as there was a problem getting them in the UK. I use tridents on my Ottrott and the two versions of the sideloader (both right hand entry) on my MeiVici as it has a frame similar to your Parlee

I'm not a fan of the shape of those drops.....they look even worse than normal "anatomic" bars....you need some classic bend bars....

Sorry, should be J D Whiskers and I have to agree about those bars. Newton shallow drop, FSA compact Wing, 3T rotunda or even Cinelli RAM Biancas if the budget goes that far

I think it has to be black tape surely to complete the stealth look? IMO you should only have white tape if you have a white saddle...
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I'd say black brooks leather tape... but then I am a bit strange :?:
  • That all sounds a bit kinky for my liking, black leather?

Haven't tried the bars yet, but I got offered them for a good price so it was rude not too. They're something I could cerainly get my money back for if need be.

Oh, Brian B, it could be that I have a 39" inside leg and a feasibly short top half of my body   or it could just be that I've put the post in frame to it's minimum insertion until my pedals arrive and then I can work out saddle height (as previously mentioned  )
