Hiya just wanna pick your brains over wheels.

Im after getting a new rear wheel , at the mo i've got a 36 spoke hope hub with mavic 717 rims.
Im more than happy with my hope hub and gonna get a pro 2 but unsure about spokes and rims, i quite like my mates DT swiss rims but have never found fault with my mavics but am willing to try something different.

One thing i forgot was im looking for something in the all mountain area

So any idea about spokes and rims would be a real help
P.S Im really the COVE ranger (yes i am)

  • Personally, I'd go for Hope Pro II's on EX721. Built up with DT Swiss Competition (Double butted) spokes in Black. 32 spokes per wheel. The ride like a dream I thoroughly recommend tha set-up. If you run tyres smaller than 2.3 in then try the XM719 rims to save some weight.
If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!
  • why 717 with 36 spokes, that's peverse

I'd look for mavic 819 if you're planning on running up to 2.3" tyres, lighter than 719...

For spokes either DT comps or if you want stronger and lighter (more expensive :D ) go for sapim cx-ray spokes. 32hole is plenty. Get them from a decent wheelbuilder, if you want 819/719 on hope hubs with dt spokes get them from merlin, excellent wheelbuilders.

Merlins standard ACI butted spokes are excellent.

  • Im about 15 1/2 stone

Definitely seems to be between the 719/819/717, but the joker in the pack could be the EN521 which is heavier than the 719, but ligher than the 721.
  • right im on it now, on the merlin site so cheers all for your help.

Oh and just i case you were wondering that is 15 and a bit stone of man mountain and not an ounce of blubber
