Looking at a site that ships for free to UK I spotted this.... http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1915 ...which looked familiar to me as the owner of an enduro maxx-d led light. Here's the LEDs which are Cree Q5's http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11022 (aren't they the ones lumicycle use???).
Now, call me daft, but with a suitable canister type container or light moulding of some sort then this stuff can be put together to make a very cheap very good bike light? I'm looking for mouldings etc out of interest.
Batteries, maybe lipo and suitable chargers just must be available cheap as they are in laptops etc, and loads of them are used in radio control flying for instance to power electric aircraft motors.
Anyone fancy helping look for some more stuff? Don't need lights myself but I'm sure a lot of people who are handy with a soldering iron and people without £300 to shell out on a light system could be very interested. I mean thats the LEDs and reflector done for $29.48 delivered which is about £21 at todays exhange rate so if a suitable light housing can be found somewhere and battery, swtich and charger I can't help but think a good light could be quite cheap? ...an idea for electronics tinkerers to play with surely and benefit a lot of people if we pool the knowledge??
There must be an off the shelf housing somewhere with all the chinese companies who make stuff.
Anyone interested or have any other useful links?
By the way... heres a link to a 3 led reflector too http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1916 and a single one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1920 if a housing can be found for a smaller light too.

oh and theres other stuff on there like driver circuits http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20329 that seem to do the high/lo/flashing modes and leds on stars whatever they are http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2394 as you can see this one led claims 228 lumens and 4 x that would break 1000 lumens so would be in the ballpark of all the best 4 led lights?
Its obvious this is probably near as damn it te exact stuff inside a lot of these lights, its just the housings which will be harder to find, bet theyre out there though and the batteries certainly will be off the shelf as will any connectors and chargers.0 -
mm looks interesting. If you can't find the official housing you could bodge one out of something.0

I'm building some uber lights using DX components... Ordered the first bits earlier. Going to be a dual SSC P7, potentially putting out 1800 lumens...
Naturally, pictures will be up once they're done.0
