Just received my WCS stem today, but there's a small mark on it (see below) please tell me i'm not insane and that there are more people who are fussy with new parts.
I know it'll get trashed, but I wanna trash it, not have it pre-trashed.
It's from CRC, so unless they think i'm insane too i'm sure they'll exchange it.

that doesn't look good. If it was on the underside I'd leave it, but if you're like me you'll end up riding a long staring at it!0

phewwwww
Yeah, if the other bolt holes are fine, why cant that be. Looks like someone screwed the bolt in without the faceplate on and messed it up, grrrr.Scott Scale Custom

Looks bashed to be honest. Send it back, it ought to be right from new. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
It's annoying ain't it. When I bought my Orange 5, several allen bolts had been over tightened and had the heads rounded, some of them were titanium too. And my carbon bars had big scratches on them. I took the lot back and made them change them. When I got it back I had a massive scratch right down my Thomson seat post. I kicked off that some idiot had treated my £3k bike with no car or attention to what they were actually doing!0

Yeah it is - the trouble is to the LBS or retailer you are fussy - I even find myself apologising when returning things.
If things were inspected properly, none of these issues would ever come about, that way the manufacturers or mechanics would book their ideas up. The only reason why I service my own bike (or two reasons) is that I can, and I also dont really trust it to be in the hands of others. To some people a mark or scratch is par for the course, but IMO it shows lack of care.Scott Scale Custom

exactly.
I got 2 free services with my bike, but after the disappointment of their Pre Delivery Check, I told them to stuff it as I'd do a better job myself. They even laughed and commented that the lad who'd signed the checklist didn't even know what he was doing, yeah great, well why don't you get someone who does know instead??
Suffice to say I've not been back since, not even for a gear cable!0 -
If I ran a workshop it'd probably be the best workshop in the world.........
Like one of the VW workshops near me - white tiled floors and walls, loads of space, no grease in site or monkeys - just an organised work area with no accidents waiting to happen - i.e. wrench about to drop off toolbox onto carbon frameScott Scale Custom

I'm glad to know I am not the only one who has BOCD (Bike Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
I hate things like that ,I ordered a set of Stroker Trails the other week and they had some little chips out of the caliper, just couldn't be arsed to send them back - but I should have.
Send it back man - that's not good fella! :evil:0 -
I would send it back mate,I love getting new bits for the bike but i wouldnt expect to pay good money for damaged goods ,CRC are a good firm so cant see any trouble with swapping it0

BOCD
Yeah I must have that too, I dont wash my hands a million times, although I do have a problem with checking that doors are locked and drying my hands after washing a few pots and then carrying on again!

no offense but i think you are being fussy
when i got my GT Tempest i took it out of the box to see that the card board seperating the frame from the handle bars had a hole in it and the handle bars had scratched a scratch about an inch by 1/2 an inch on the downtube. i was fairly pi55ed off but because i had already been waiting fo my bike to arrive for 3 and a half weeks i ignored it and it hasnt bothered me since0 -
Mancunianfightingcat - what shop was that? sounds like one to avoid.0

Wish this had been posted last week.
I went into LL in Bury for a new headset on my Cannondale F6. Not an expensive bike but it is my pride an joy. After putting it on and taking my money I noticed a huge chunk out of my top tube! When I pointed it out he said it was like that when it came in! I played heck until he got me some touch up.
Not impressed but what can you do??!!
They also took chunks out of my fork crown while trying to jimmy the crown race off with a screwdriver!!! Ba****ds.0 -

No way fussy. MTBing is expensive if manufacturers and retailers are going to charge the prices they do for bike kit, then you should expect and demand it in mint condition, near perfect.
Its easy after a while to become blind to what we actually pay for bike kit, tell a non MTBer that your going to spend over £2,000 on a new bike and they carnt believe it.0
