SLX over the raceface. XT if you can find for a decent price, though everything has gone up lately.

On a budget, old LX.

£160 for the XT seems a bit steep to me when the SLX is £50 cheaper

EDIT Merlin doing the SLX for £90 and the XT for £125, XT it is then I think

Hehe.
Use the same bearings, but the SLX gets a stronger crank arm - the XT has a thicker, stiffer outer ring.

If you want to save a ton of money, try and source a pair of deore hollowtech 1 octalink cranks and a matching BB, very light and stiff.
