I recently got a Raleigh ST24 bike and noticed it is a lot heavier than i thought it would be! I know you can change some of the components but i would like to know what components i could change that would lower the weight but without breaking the bank.

I also want strong, rugged components for dirt jumping and a bit of street.
  • you could learn to wheelie & therefore only need one of your wheels :P

remember, lighter isn't always stronger & depending what you want to do will have a big effect. Wheels are a big thing but it depends how much you want to spend & how worth it it will be for the other components. Then a good crankset will also give you lightness & in some cases strongness.
    Start Weight 18st 13lbs March 2009
    17st 10lbs August 2009
    17st 4lbs October 2009
    15st 12lbs December 2010

    Final planned weight 12st 7lbs

For me it would be losing some personal weight. Costs nowt and has the same effect (unless you change the wheels).
  • Not really marcBC, particularly as OP is talking about dirt and street.

OP, what does the bike have on it now?

no that is what the bike cost (£160ish)

Not worth doing as the whole bike really need replacing to get lighter.

    thanks for the help...
  • If you can take it back and get your money back then you could combine the money you're saving with the money from the bike and get a better bike. Then you could upgrade that as you need to.

You want lighter, then get a BMX.
