i am going to upgrade my hardtail from 8 speed to 9 speed, i have a sram x9 mech and a 9 speed cassette already and i know i will need a sram shifter for the back, what i want to know is will i have to get a 9 speed front mech and 9 speed front chainrings and if so will these fit on the original crank

The front shifter should be ok. The chain rings on the front will need changing as will the chain.

the chain rings will be fine.

your old rear mech would have been fine as well.

  • that means i wont need a front shifter, result ! , might as well change rear mech as i have a spare one and the original deore mech is well worn and the shifter is the same.cheers chaps
