SLX chainset question

Can you use the 9 speed SLX triple chainset on an 8 speed chain ?

    Yes - shouldn't make a difference, not like the close ratio af rear cassetes, should be plent of room, my slx triple looks like it could take it. I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

    It will work. But you need an 8 speed cassette with an 8 speed chain (or 7).

    8 speed chains don't work properly with 9 speed cassettes.

    Thanks guys

    I thought it would but just thought I'd check, I do it a lot on road chainsets with no problems.
    The bike is already 8 speed running slx mechs but the bb and chainset are past their sell by date :D
