hi all
this may seem like a really daft question but how do you remove the front wheel? its not like normal quick release where the wheel just slots in and out. Any help would be appreciated oh and ive checked the manual online and it doesnt seem to say its more about servicing the forks.
Also could anyone recommend and lubricant to use on my chain once i have cleaned my bike to stop it rusting.
Cheers, Dan

Its a maxle, so you undo the quick release lever then twist it until it comes out, there is a thread on the axle and on the fork.
as for chain lube, you will need to lube it a lot more than just once, there are loads to choose from, I think fenwicks does a good one.0 -
You undo the normal qr - then slot the qr lever into a little notch, and use that to unscrew the maxle thingy. There is a vid of it on youtube somewhere.0

I prefer to use dry lube all year round. Finish Line, Pedros and Weldtite are pretty good. Profi Dry Lube (for motorcycles) is amazing stuff but it's expensive.0 -

what year?
a read of the manual would help you as it is described in it.
new Pikes have the Maxle 360 and older ones have just the Maxle similar but different."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

This one, you mean?
The procedure is also illustrated on pages 5 to 7 of the Rock Shox suspension manual, available as a download from Sram's website technical area.0 -

No, you're right. The step-by-step instructions on how to fit the Maxle, along with detailed explanations of how to set the forks up and what all the various controls do, along with the helpful and clear diagrams are in fact completely and utterly useless.
I'll never know how I managed to fit mine and set them up, or service them following the Rock Shox technical manual and its equally clear and helpful step-by-step photo instructions, tips and safety notes.
Sheeshh... :roll:0 -
If someone doesn't understand how to release a front wheel, is there any certainty that said front wheel can be safely replaced prior to ring off on it?

There is always a chance of failure. With any component if you don't know how to fit it properly. With an ill fitted wheel it is usually very obvious it is not on right as you pedal away.0

also make sure you put a lil bit of grease on the maxle before you put it on, because mine got stuck the other day
let me tell you, its hard to get it out!!!!0 -
Top tip always keep the Axle clean and oil the thread regularly
and centre part of the axle.
If not you can still undo the axle but the axle wont come out
When this happens you have to tap it out with a piece of wood and hammer.
1, Undo quick release(fork)
2, Unscrew the axle
3, Clean axle
4,Oil axle
5, replace wheel
6, Tighten Axle
7, Lock quick release(fork)0
