It's Wheelbuilding Time... HELP!
Hi Gang
One of my 'things to do in 2009' is build a set of wheels (or three).
I'd be really grateful for your recommendations for:
1. A book/instructions
My LBS swears by Schraner, but I've heard good things about the Wheelpro eBook.
2. Wheel building stand
I can't quite stretch to the Park TS-2 and am looking for something around £150.
3. Other tools
Tension meter
Spoke wrenches
Anything else?
Any recommendations very gratefully received

1. Sheldon Brown (free)
2. I use a Minoura Pro
3. Park Tools spoke wrench and some copper grease and for ~£90 you're ready to go....More problems but still living....0 -
The Schraner book is good with a few easy to work with diagrams. Very easy to follow for lacing , etcRecipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.0

U dont need a tension gauge - build slowly and be systematic - dish the wheel properly if its true the tensions will be ok. Compare with built up wheel to get confidence.
Oh yeah start with something simple 32hole and 3 cross. The 'pretty' lacings found on factory wheels would be a hard build.0 -
I'd recommend the wheelpro ebook. Describes how to build your own jig and dishing tool as well.0

Your best bet is to go to your lbs with some biccies/beer and ask them to build up the rear whilst showing you how to do the front one. They've got the tools already and then you can ask questions.0

I can recommend the e-book by Roger Musson and Sheldon Brown's web site of course. Both give good insights into the "black art" of wheel building.0
