Garmin Edge 605...Anyway round the roadworks??? Help Needed

I have been using a new Garmin Edge 605 and on a couple of pre mapped routes i have had a road completely blocked off by road works. The unit keeps trying to take me back to the blocked road even after i am well away from them following the diversion. Luckily on both occasions i knew the area quite well so found my own way, but i have some longer routes entered into it where i wont have a clue where i am! I believe on some of the car sat navs you can put something into the gps to tell it the road is blocked but is there anyway around it with the Garmins??? Thanks .....
