Hello all,

Could someone help me please. I'm currently rebuilding a Scott Kokomo 2002 and I've got to the bit where I need to attach the new rear mech to the frame, via the hanger that exists already on my bike. But the problem is the hanger doesn't seem to fit the new rear mech at all. Does any one have any solutions to this, like where I could buy a new hanger or whether there a universal hanger that will fit my frame?

Cheers

should fit as it is a standard fit.

    Pictures of your problem.

    yep that is normal.

the mech should just screw on.

    lets see the mech.

Hmm. Now, approach this advice with caution, but I think that's the same dropout design as is on my On One Scandal. When I fitted my X5 mech to it, I found it was very loose- even with the bolt fully tightened, the mech still had a lot of play in it, as if the bolt was bottoming out or something was stopping the mech from sitting properly against the hanger

So, I looked at the frame that the mech came off- a Carrera Kraken- and discovered that while the dropout was the exact same shape, it has a small raised area where the mech bolts to. Lo and behold, mech works perfectly on Carrera dropout, doesn't work properly on On One dropout. So I swapped 'em, but it seems that there was a spacer or washer needed to make it work properly with the On One dropout. I was always under the impression that these are completely universal.

well that looks like shimano picture.

it should just screw straight on.

make sure the B screw locates correctly.

So what is actually happening or not happening.

here is a pic of the B screw adjuster in place.

Ok cool. I will try it tomorrow from that diagram you've shown me and take it from there. I think I'm being stupid...plus I'm rather tired, not a good mix.

I may be back tomorrow for more help. haha

    Cheers for the help lads

Oh yeah one last thing. The mech that I have taken off is a Shimano Alivio (2002), the way that new mech fits onto the hanger shouldn't be any different from the old one should it?

    Cheers again :)
