What do you use as a distraction from the boredom.

I listen to the radio, not too bad actually, but I may soon get an ipod or sommat. :D

Heavy music, watch the heart-rate monitor and and cycle computer on stop-watch mode whilst doing intervals. Counting down the minutes/seconds and pain left in an interval kinda concentrates the mind into an almost zen state I find.

Watch a film on the Laptop or a spinervals DVD. If I'm doing intervals I look at the Powertap Computer and pray for them to end.
  • SUFFERFEST!!! its the best thing i have used! its on Itunes and it's free. It also provides some good workouts and vairation depending on what you want to work on.

Well I certainly wouldn't recommend listening to a Michel Thomas language CD , I have tried that. I now just use a CD with some singalong music tracks. Of course we all have our own idea of what constitutes singalong . I am currently using some old Cream stuff.

Sticking a random Springsteen concert on the ipod works for me. No matter how long I stick the session out, The Boss will always still be going long after I've finished :-)
  • I've been using a turbo trainer for the last few winters now and I've found them a very useful training tool.

If I'm doing a half hour in the morning before work, I'll usually listed to some sort of dance music, Ministry of Sounds or Euphoria, something like that.

If I just want to spin for an hour, I'll usually put on a Tour de France DVD or perhaps a movie. However I will still have a good idea of what I want to do in the session, perhaps a certain distance.

For more of a training session, I'll use either a Trainright or Rick Kiddle DVD. These really make the time fly by as you're keeping to a target heart rate zone or %, cadence and power (if you have it). Also I do think there's a lot of benefit from these sessions.

If you find going on the turbo boring then you might want to think about what you want out of the session. An hour to spin he legs, or do some more structured training?

Stick American Flyers on and sellotape a crap race result to my handlebars, what more motivation would you need?

I'm stuck out in the garage, don't listen to any music. Just fix a 1000 yard stare at the garage door (which is 6 feet away) and imagine Armstrong is pacing me up Alpe D'huez. Then I snap out of it and the sessions done.
    Why not? My bikes.

I can;t be doing with turbos now. The very thought makes my heart sink. I'd rather brave the elements and suffer a bit than sit there mindlessly turning pedals.

I raise my front wheel up to a position that makes me feel comfy, then i can sit up and read a book.
I still struggle to get past the hour mark and thats with half hour reading before the sweat drips on me book and half hour of mp3's.

BBC iPlayer for iPhone to listen to Radio 1 dance from the previous Friday night. Variety is key for me.
