Fast climbing Full Sus

Hi, I'm looking to replace my On-One Scandal 29er with a full susser (or possibly a soft tail) - love the way the Scandal flies on the flat and climbs up hills with no effort but now need something to smooth out the bumps. Is there anything out there that would compare either 26 or 29er without getting into super-bike territory and money? I've got a set of Merlin wheels Mavic 717 rims/LX hubs and a full 2007 XT group-set I could take off the Scandal so building something up around a new frame and fork is an option.

GT Marathon or older GT Idrive XC4? 4 inch of travel, highly rated climbing traction and pedalling efficiency. Minimal pedal kickback too.0
