Are there any bikes around with a Carbon Fibre frame and running the Campag Centaur groupset?
I'm anticipating our works Cycle Scheme to be available shortly and the bike i was going to get (Ribble Nero Corsa with Centaur) is now £1099. :?
Cheers, Stu

I wouldn't get a Nero Corsa again, the geometry is all wrong, and IMO is an ugly looking frame, however with the right stem angle/length it fits and rides very well, but I don't like riding an ugly bike.

Any suggestions then for a £1k max limit?
I was set on carbon+centaur but i may well have to settle for alu or Veloce/105.
Oh and the supplier must take Cycle scheme of course. :)

I believe Epic take the Cycles Scheme voucher (or whatever it is).
What about their 2008 Wilier Mortirolo with Campag Mirage for £999 and upgrade the groupset as parts wear out?

I had a bit of a play on Ribble Bike Builder, and was able to get the Nero Corsa a little closer to £1000, but only by compromising on the quality of other components, including, unfortunately, the wheels.

What you could consider is the same frame with Veloce kit, and Campag Khamsin wheelset for £976.

What are your reasons for the bike having to be Centaur equipped, and carbon framed?

Carbon frames are not the be all and end all, TBH I'd probably go for an alloy frame with decent components.

Guys, no particular reason other than the Ribble was Carbon and Centaur and anything else seems like a step back...though i understand that the Ribble frame might not be that good and i'd be better with the Wilier linked above for example.

Would you take the Wilier carbon frame over the Nero Corsa's?

Or even the Alu/carbon setup of the Bianchi (alu frame, carbon fork?) -

Obviously groupset is only Mirage on the Wilier and Veloce on the Binachi, though i dont know how the rest of the specs compare eg wheel set.

Centaur is a decent groupset and the lowest I'd consider going with Campag. My experience with my and my GF's bikes is that Shimano are kicking Campag's backside on the lower priced groupsets so if you can't afford Centaur go for 105 rather than Veloce.

The Wilier Mortirolo frame is lovely but I think I'd agree with reddragon and go for a really well made alloy frame.

The other advantage of Ribble for you though is the access to the shop. You'd actually get to be sized for a Ribble bike in shop (as I was) whereas with the others you might not be able to try the bikes before you buy.

My understanding of the Nero Corsa frame is that it is an "own brand" frame for others apart from Ribble, and should be of an equivalent quality to a similar priced "named" manufacturers carbon frame. I thin Wiggle & Merlin Cycles have the same carbon frame in their ranges.

So what woudl be deemed as a decent alloy frame?
Does the Bianchi i posted above rate highly frame wise?

You can't judge a bike by it's specifications.
You've got to test ride them.
I can recommend a trio to epic cycles.
Give them a ring to discuss what your after.
  • Why stop at £1000? Pay the extra in cash, to the bike shop.

I didnt think that was allowed..... :?

Epic isnt exactly local and i'd be struggling to get there with 3 kids under 4 to look to.
I'd be hoping if i wanted a bike that i'd struggle to actually get a ride on beforehand i could at least get the required body dimensions and allow the suplier make an estimated guess on size....i mean they'd have a good idea they sell them day in day out.

The more i look at it the more a balanced bike (decent Alu frame and mid range groupset) makes sense....how does the all Alu Deda EM2 frame rate as supplied by Ribble?
I can get this with Campag Centaur and Mavic Aksiums for the £1k budget.

Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

As good as that looks is that only available to the Halfords Cycle scheme though and not the cyclescheme.co.uk scheme... :?

Most bikes do - it allows you to tweak the cable whilst riding. Not to be confused with downtube levers/shifters.
