Small shin pads to protect against shin / pedal interaction!

Every time I have ridden with my wife, I am worried she will slip a foot off the pedal, cranks will spin and her leg will get smacked by the pedal and its nasty pins!
Are there any small (lady sized!) shin pads that are not too obvious that she could wear to protect against this?
All the ones I have seen are either like football shin pads or knee and shin pads.
Any ideas? I did consider just some neoprene or something - just to take the edge off!

661 Veggie - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=9597 - £19.99
or the 2009 version - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=30895 - £31.990 -
From the look of them, they basically cover the whole of the shin right to the knee - is that correct?0

Yep, just below the knee cap. Not bulky though, so should do the job.0

Will find a LBS that sells them and have a look - thanks!0

Football ones! Those little over the shin, under the sock type with velcro straps. Have been a godsend, I have some 8 quid Adidas ones.0

I got a pair of black footy shinpads with ankle protectors of ebay for 2.99, spot on for the price and don't even notice they're there.0

Even better lol. Had mine about 11 years now.0

I'm not a fan, but have you considered a shoe with a grippier sole? I got a pair of 5 10s a couple of weeks back... I don't really like them myself, for me the extra grip does nothing much- my feet don't really slip with regular skate shoes, since I learned to ride on mountain bikes with rubber pedals but the feeling of connectedness is pretty impressive, it'd be a lot harder to lose a pedal with these things.Uncompromising extremist0

Its not for me - its for wifey!
She didn't like the look of the 661s - too obvious!
So may try getting her some footie ones.
She doesn't think she will need them either, I am just waiting for the day she wished she had them!0 -

The only problem with football shin pads (and actually some biking ones too) is that they don't protect the whole shin - very often they leave the lower few inches exposed. They can get knocked round as well, even the sock-type.
Personally I think wearing knee and shins makes you look like you mean business and I know that mine have saved me from some nasty scrapes (if the scratching on the outer shell is anything to go by!).0 -
Bare in mind she is a "lady" and we will only be doing XC duties - she doesn't wanna look like a Dirt-Girl Downhiller!
They pads are only to save her shins from pedal contact.0 -
there is no protection!
if your bikes gonna bite you then its gonna bite you. best to let it have a chomp and get it over with. let her feel the grip pins bury themselves right to the bone and tear the flesh as they scrape thier way towards the ever so tender ankle regions. she'll soon be limping to the lbs for the biggest pads she can find, ladylike be damned!0 -
ah ! shin smash
the most painful thing ever!m-trax ti 1000- back when i was rubbish.
evo 8 - i am continuing to be rubbish.0 -
Haha just read Jesus_christs comments to her - she reckons she is tough enough.
She has fallen down a cattle grid before and lived to tell the tale - "but if did fu**in hurt"
Am waiting for the "I told you so" I can say when it does happen!0 -

Try and find some low key footy shin pads with the ankle protection too (as someone already said)- I change between this and full knee/shin depending on what I'm doing- usually just wear the shin pads- they've got my yr7 tutor group written inside in biro so have lasted 17years!!!
Good luck on trying to find some that aren't super blinging though! You want some sweet 1990 Robson Gold (Yes Brian Robson! No they're not gold) like mine- dog chew marks and yellow electrical tape optional!
Seriously though- should be able to pick something up in youth sizing for around a fiver0
